With the new two day bore water watering days we wanted to give you tips on keeping your garden healthy.
The biggest problem is our sandy water phobic soil in Perth Metro. The most important tip is to use liquid soil wetter on your gardens throughout summer and at the change of seasons for the rest of the year. The liquid soil wetter works best to break down the waxy coating on the sand to make the sand hold water more efficiently.
Mulch is important to protect your roots and soil loosing water through evaporation. The best mulches are coarse timber mulch that doesn’t hold moisture but drains well so the water seeps down to the soil.
Adding clay to our sandy soil helps retain water. The best way to do this is to add clay powder to a watering can and water into garden beds.
